Why A Makeup Trial Is So Important

One of the most frequently asked questions I get from brides is, “Do I have to do a trial?”

Well, the short answer is no, you don’t have to, but I always strongly encourage it.

I get it, it’s another expense for a makeup trial and one more thing to add to you “Wedding To-Do List” but this is going to be one of the biggest days of your life and a makeup trial will ensure that there will be no stress when it comes to your makeup on the wedding day. You wouldn’t buy a wedding dress or leave your alterations without trying it on first right? So, I don’t think you should skip out on trying your makeup artist out before your big day either.

The trial run is important to me because it allows us to sit down and discuss what kind of look you’re going for without feeling stressed or rushed on the wedding day. The trial run allows me to listen to all of your likes, dislikes, and see any inspiration photos you may have for makeup. I’ll be honest too, sometimes we don’t get it right on the first try, and that’s okay – that’s why we’re doing a trial run! My goal at the trial is to create the perfect look for you that you will love in photos for the rest of your life. I want you to be 100% happy with your makeup, even if that means we need to wipe it off and start over again. It can take a while to narrow down your perfect look, and usually we wouldn’t have much time on the day of, due to the fact that wedding day timelines are pretty tight. Doing a trial prior allows me to show up on the day of the wedding knowing exactly what I’m doing and saving that valuable time.

Having a trial run before your wedding will also allow you to test out the makeup for a long period of time to make sure it lasts and your skin doesn’t have any type of reaction to the makeup. At the end of the trial, I also always tell my brides to let me know how their makeup wears throughout the day. I’ve never had anyone have a reaction of any kind (*knocks on wood*) because usually clients will know if they have any allergies or sensitivities prior to getting their makeup done, but every once in a while I will have a bride come back to me on the wedding day and tell me they got a little too shiny in their t-zone or something small. That’s a quick fix with different skin prep on the wedding day but we wouldn’t have known that if you didn’t get to wear it for a long period of time first! So, a trial allows you to not only test the final look out, but it also allows you to test out the products that I’m using on your face for a whole day.

Lastly, a trial run allows me to meet you before the wedding (my favorite part)! I spend SO much time emailing all of my brides, and it’s so nice when I get to finally put a face to the name and actually get to see you face to face. Besides figuring out your bridal look, the trial gives us time to chat about all of the details of your wedding day (because I seriously want to know it all), I can get to know who you are as a person, you can get to know me, and we just get to have girl talk! I have learned that this is important because it takes away any awkwardness on the day of because we’re not complete strangers. It’s important to me that you and your bridal party feel completely comfortable on the wedding day!

A trial really is an important part of your wedding day makeup that most people don’t realize. I can assure you, you will never regret doing a trial run. Every bride wants to look beautiful and confident on her wedding day, and doing a trial will give both of us a peace of mind that the wedding day will run smoothly and you will have the makeup of your dreams that day!
